Signed
A Saving Grace
A signed first-edition, first-printing hardcover of A Saving Grace: The Collected Poems of Mrs. Bentley by acclaimed Canadian poet Lorna Crozier, published by McClelland & Stewart in 1996. Crozier has signed her name in blue ink on the half-title page, without a dedication.
This linked sequence of poems reimagines Mrs. Bentley, the central narrator of Sinclair Ross’s classic Canadian novel As for Me and My House. Returning to the fictional Saskatchewan town of Horizon during the drought-stricken 1930s, Crozier explores prairie landscape, isolation, marriage, faith and a woman's inner life through Mrs. Bentley’s voice.
Crozier was already a Governor General’s Award-winning poet when this collection appeared, having received the 1992 poetry award for Inventing the Hawk. A Saving Grace offers an imaginative literary response to a major work of Canadian prairie literature while standing independently as a meditation on land, endurance and identity.
The book and dust jacket are in Very Good condition. The dust jacket has been protected with clear removable plastic and shows light surface rubbing or handling wear consistent with careful use. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of the description.
