Us Conductors

by Sean Michaels

Us Conductors is Sean Michaels’s acclaimed debut novel, presented here in the 2014 Random House Canada hardcover first Canadian edition and first printing, complete with its illustrated dust jacket. This copy is signed and personally inscribed to Norma by Michaels, who filled the title page with a playful purple-ink message and large original drawing.

Inspired by the life of Lev Termen, inventor of the theremin, the novel blends historical fiction, romance, music and espionage. Moving between Jazz Age New York and Stalinist Russia, it follows Termen’s inventions, secret work and enduring love for theremin virtuoso Clara Rockmore. Us Conductors won the 2014 Scotiabank Giller Prize.

The book is in Very Good condition overall. The dust jacket has light rubbing and edge and corner wear, with a small nick or short tear near the lower front edge. Purple ink marks or show-through from the elaborate inscription are visible on the copyright page. The front free endpaper bears the previous owner name “Norma” in blue ink, along with a small nearby rubbed or erased area.

An appealing signed first printing of an award-winning Canadian novel, particularly distinctive for the author’s extensive illustrated inscription. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of the description.
