The Disappearers

by Marlon James

The Disappearers is Marlon James’s sweeping literary novel about eight gay men who gather in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1988 to rehearse a play. After the group becomes the target of a brutal homophobic attack, the story follows the survivors through the emotional, social, and personal consequences, exploring identity, secrecy, violence, survival, revenge, and the struggle to live openly in an intolerant society.

The novel was shortlisted for the 2026 Booker Prize. James previously won the 2015 Booker Prize for A Brief History of Seven Killings, and his fiction has also received major honours including the American Book Award, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize.

This Canadian hardcover is a first edition, first printing published by Bond Street Books in 2026. It is the special pre-signed issue, flat signed by Marlon James in green ink on the title page without a personalization or inscription. The dust jacket retains its “Signed Copy” sticker.

Brand new copy. The book will be carefully packaged to protect the jacket and signed volume in transit.
