Stan Douglas

by Stan Douglas

A signed first-edition copy of Stan Douglas, the substantial Steidl photobook produced in connection with Douglas receiving the 2013 Scotiabank Photography Award. The book was issued in pictorial hardcover format without a dust jacket and contains 228 pages, including two gatefolds and 159 photographs reproduced in colour and duotone.

This monograph surveys the role of photography in the Vancouver artist’s wider practice across photography, film and installation. Its images and critical texts examine Douglas’s engagement with reconstructed histories, cultural identity, displacement, memory and overlooked social events. The cover reproduces a detail from Kung Fu Fighting, 1975, from his Disco Angola series.

Flat signed by Stan Douglas in black marker on the title page, without a visible personalized inscription. The copyright page identifies this as the first edition and states that it was published in 2013 on the occasion of the award; publisher and distributor catalogues record its release in 2014.

Very Good overall, with light rubbing and shelf wear to the pictorial boards and some wear at the spine ends and corners. No dust jacket is included. This is a large, heavy photobook measuring approximately 30.5 x 24.8 x 2.8 cm, with a reference weight of about 1.85 kg; the actual copy should be weighed before shipment. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
