The Antagonist

by Lynn Coady

A signed hardcover copy of The Antagonist by acclaimed Canadian novelist Lynn Coady, published by House of Anansi Press in 2011. This is the second printing of the first Canadian edition, complete with its dust jacket and flat signed by Coady on the title page without a visible inscription or personalization.

The novel follows Gordon “Rank” Rankin, a physically imposing former hockey enforcer who discovers that a once-trusted friend has transformed Rank’s painful history and closely guarded secret into fiction. Told through Rank’s attempt to reclaim his own story, the novel explores masculinity, violence, betrayal, memory, and the uneasy distance between a person and the role others assign him.

The Antagonist was shortlisted for the 2011 Scotiabank Giller Prize and won the 2012 Georges Bugnet Award for Fiction. It is an appealing signed Canadian edition of an important novel by the author whose collection Hellgoing later won the 2013 Scotiabank Giller Prize.

Very Good overall. The dust jacket displays light edge and corner wear with minor rubbing and scattered surface marks, including small marks on the lower front panel. Two tiny reddish spots are visible beneath the publisher logo on the signed title page. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description and show the actual copy offered.
