From the Ashes

by Jesse Thistle

From the Ashes: My Story of Being Métis, Homeless, and Finding My Way is Jesse Thistle's candid memoir of childhood upheaval, homelessness and addiction, followed by his journey toward education, recovery, family and reconnection with his Métis-Cree identity. The book considers the lasting effects of trauma, prejudice and displacement while offering a story of resilience and belonging.

The memoir became a major Canadian bestseller and won the 2020 Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize for Nonfiction, an Indigenous Voices Award and a High Plains Book Award. It was also selected as a CBC Canada Reads finalist.

This hardcover is the October 2021 Simon & Schuster Canada Special Signed Collector's Edition and the first printing of that edition. Jesse Thistle has flat signed the publisher's specially bound signature page in blue ink, without a personalized inscription. The volume is illustrated with black-and-white and colour photographs and includes a new foreword prepared for this edition.

Very Good overall, with minor visible corner and edge wear to the dust jacket, including a small crease at the lower-left front corner. The signed page and representative illustrated interior spread shown appear clean and unmarked. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
