Bataan and Beyond

Too Dead to Die: A Memoir of Bataan and Beyond by Steve Raymond and Mike Pride, published in hardcover by Plaidswede Publishing Co. in 2006. This deeply personal World War II memoir recounts Raymond’s experiences during the Battle of Bataan, the Bataan Death March and more than three years as a Japanese prisoner of war.

Raymond served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Philippines before being forced into infantry duty on Bataan. His account follows his capture, imprisonment in camps including Camp O’Donnell and Cabanatuan, transport aboard a prison ship and forced labour in Japan. Developed from Raymond’s wartime diary and later work with journalist Mike Pride, the book preserves an important firsthand account of the Pacific War and POW experience.
