An Inexplicable Story: Or, the Narrative of Questus Firmus Siculu
An Inexplicable Story, or, The Narrative of Questus Firmus Siculus by Josef Skvorecky. Published in Toronto by Key Porter Books in 2002, this is the first English-language edition and first printing, translated from the Czech by Káca Poláčková Henley. Hardcover with dust jacket, ISBN 1-55263-368-3.
Skvorecky's playful literary mystery is presented as an annotated edition of a fragmentary ancient manuscript. Moving through the Rome of Ovid and Augustus, the novel mixes archaeology, historical speculation, Roman engineering, academic commentary and literary allusion into a layered work of historical metafiction. Skvorecky was the 1980 laureate of the Neustadt International Prize for Literature.
This copy is signed and inscribed by Josef Skvorecky on the half-title page. The presentation is addressed to a named recipient, includes “cordially,” and is dated 13 November 2002 in Toronto.
Very Good overall. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
