1967

Signed hardcover copy of 1967: How I Got There and Why I Never Left, Robyn Hitchcock’s memoir of the pivotal period when boarding school, family life and the rapidly changing music of the 1960s helped shape his artistic identity. Hitchcock is known as the singer-songwriter behind the Soft Boys and for a long solo career marked by psychedelic imagery, surreal humour and distinctive songwriting.
Rather than covering an entire career, the memoir concentrates on Hitchcock’s adolescence and his experience of 1967. It explores his adjustment to Winchester College alongside his growing fascination with Bob Dylan, the Beatles and the era’s psychedelic culture. The book is illustrated with Hitchcock’s own sketches and offers both a coming-of-age account and a musician’s reflection on the influences that set his creative direction.
This copy is flat signed by Robyn Hitchcock directly on the title page, beneath his printed name. The signature is not personalized. Published by Akashic Books in 2024, this is the U.S. hardcover edition, ISBN 9781636142067, and the copyright page identifies it as a third printing.
The illustrated boards show minor visible rubbing or wear at the edges and corners. The photographed title and copyright pages appear clean and legible, without visible highlighting or an ownership inscription, and the rear cover shown also presents cleanly.
