The Missing Millionaire
The Missing Millionaire: The True Story of Ambrose Small and the City Obsessed with Finding Him by Katie Daubs. This is the 2019 first hardcover edition and first printing from McClelland & Stewart, complete with its illustrated dust jacket.
Daubs reconstructs the sensational disappearance of Toronto theatre magnate Ambrose Small, who vanished in December 1919 after selling his Ontario theatre interests for a fortune. Drawing together true crime and Toronto social and cultural history, the illustrated volume follows the investigation, the people surrounding Small, and the theories that kept the case in the public imagination for decades. The book was shortlisted for both the 2020 Toronto Book Award and the 2020 Arthur Ellis Award for Best Non-fiction Crime Book.
This copy has an extensive personalized inscription to Jim and Fay on the title page and is signed by Katie Daubs. The inscription includes additional handwritten comments and small doodles, making it a distinctive presentation copy rather than a flat-signed example.
Very Good overall, with minor visible edge and corner wear to the dust jacket. The jacket is now protected in a removable clear plastic cover. The representative interior spread shown appears clean and features black-and-white historical photographs and document reproductions.
