Burmese Lessons
Burmese Lessons: A Love Story by Karen Connelly, published by Random House Canada in 2009. This is the first Canadian edition and first printing, with the complete 10 through 1 number line on the copyright page. Hardcover with the original illustrated dust jacket; ISBN 9780307356680.
Connelly's literary memoir recounts her experiences in Burma and along the Thai-Burmese border in the 1990s. Her encounters with dissidents, refugees and political resistance become intertwined with her relationship with a Burmese revolutionary leader, combining travel writing, political history and a deeply personal love story. Burmese Lessons was a finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award for nonfiction and was nominated for the British Columbia National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction.
This copy is inscribed to Gail and signed by Karen Connelly on the title page. The personalized handwritten inscription appears to include the words “Scary awareness. Hmm. I like that!” followed by Connelly's large signature.
Very Good overall condition. The hardcover and dust jacket are present, with light visible edge and corner wear. The seller discloses very minor page toning, and the representative photographed page shows mild toning with a few isolated faint spots or small marks. The book will be carefully packaged to help protect the jacket and signed title page in transit.
