Seduction
A signed first-edition, first-printing hardcover of Seduction, Catherine Gildiner’s 2005 debut novel, published in Toronto by Alfred A. Knopf Canada. The copyright page states “First Edition,” and the complete number line includes 1. ISBN 0-676-97653-0.
The title page is inscribed “All the best,” and signed “Catherine McClure Gildiner.” This is a genuine author inscription rather than a previous owner’s signature, and no recipient’s name is included.
Seduction blends crime fiction with an intellectual and psychological thriller. Its central character, Kate Fitzgerald, has spent a decade in prison and immersed herself in Freud before becoming involved in an investigation surrounding threats against a Freudian archivist. The novel draws on questions involving Freud, Darwin, psychoanalytic history, and the motives behind influential theories.
The hardcover includes its illustrated dust jacket. The jacket shows visible rubbing, scuffing, and edge wear, particularly around the spine ends and corners. An “Autographed” sticker and a “Heather’s Pick” sticker remain attached to the front. The small, brownish marks on the page edges appear to be minor liquid droplets/splatters or localized staining. Please use the photographs to evaluate the visible condition and inscription.
