Fifteen Dogs: An Apologue

by André Alexis

A signed first edition of Fifteen Dogs: An Apologue by André Alexis, published in softcover by Coach House Books in 2015. This copy has the Kirkus Reviews cover blurb and Scotiabank Giller Prize Finalist seal associated with the second print-run state.

The novel begins with a wager between Hermes and Apollo, who grant human intelligence and language to fifteen dogs staying at a Toronto veterinary clinic. Alexis follows the resulting pack through questions of consciousness, happiness, loyalty, language and mortality, creating a philosophical work of literary fiction with the form and force of an animal fable.

Fifteen Dogs won the 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize and the 2015 Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize and was later selected as the winner of Canada Reads 2017. This copy is signed by André Alexis on the title page with a brief personalized inscription and is dated “9 Nov 2015” in Toronto—the day before the Giller Prize winner was announced.

Very Good overall, with light handling and edge wear and a few small surface marks visible on the wrappers or their clear protector. The photographed title and copyright pages appear clean apart from the author’s inscription. Softcover with no dust jacket, now protected by clear removable plastic. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
