V. E. Schwab is a #1 New York Times bestselling American author celebrated for her complex world-building and morally ambiguous characters across more than 25 books. She writes adult dark fantasy and sci-fi under V. E. Schwab, while using her full name, Victoria Schwab, for her middle-grade and young adult fiction. Born in California and raised in Tennessee, she holds a degree in book design from Washington University in St. Louis and a master's degree from the University of Edinburgh, where she uniquely studied medieval-art depictions of monstrosity—a theme that heavily inspires her fiction. Schwab achieved immense breakthrough success with her Villains series starting with Vicious, her critically acclaimed Shades of Magic universe, and her massive commercial hit The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.
