Rohinton Mistry

Rohinton Mistry is a universally celebrated Indian-born Canadian novelist and short-story writer whose epic, deeply empathetic narratives have established him as a premier chronicle of modern post-colonial India and a vital global voice in contemporary literature. Born into the Parsi Zoroastrian community in Bombay (now Mumbai), Mistry earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Mumbai before emigrating to Canada in 1975, settling in Toronto. He initially worked for nearly a decade as a bank supervisor while balancing evening classes at the University of Toronto, where he completed a second Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy to formalize his literary vocation.
