Michael Bonacini is a Welsh-born Canadian chef, restaurateur, and cookbook co-author associated with Toronto’s restaurant and hospitality sector. He trained under Chef Anton Mosimann at the Dorchester Hotel in London, then moved to Canada in 1985. His early professional experience combined classical kitchen training with the practical demands of hospitality.
In 1993, Bonacini and Peter Oliver opened Jump, beginning the partnership that became Oliver & Bonacini Hospitality. As a co-founder, Bonacini has directed the company’s culinary program and contributed to the development of its restaurant portfolio. His television work has included Cook Like a Chef, appearances on Cityline and The Marilyn Denis Show, and judging on MasterChef Canada.
Bonacini co-wrote the 2010 cookbook 3 Chefs The Kitchen Men with Massimo Capra and Jason Parsons, bringing recipes and personal food stories together in a collaborative volume. He received the Ontario Hostelry Institute Gold Award in 1996, its first such award recognizing culinary excellence in Ontario, and Canada’s 100 Best presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. He was appointed to the board of directors of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in 2019.
