Author profile

Margaret Webb

Margaret Webb is an acclaimed Canadian non-fiction author, investigative journalist, screenwriter, and athlete whose immersive storytelling explores the intersection of culinary heritage, agricultural sustainability, and physical endurance. Raised on a family farm north of Toronto, she completed her master's degree in English and creative writing at Concordia University before building a diverse, 25-year career as a freelance feature journalist and magazine editor, contributing to prominent publications such as The Globe and Mail, Sports Illustrated Women, and Runner's World. Webb vaulted into national culinary prominence with her award-winning 2008 non-fiction book, Apples to Oysters: A Food Lover's Tour of Canadian Farms, a celebrated travelogue exploring artisan food systems that captured a Canadian culinary book award for its meticulous, firsthand portrayal of the country's local food pioneers. She solidified her reputation as a versatile and empathetic writer by training as a screenwriter at the Canadian Film Centre, subsequently winning a screenwriting fellowship to Walt Disney Studios and co-writing the award-winning feature film, Margarita, which streamed globally on Netflix. An elite long-distance masters marathon runner and dedicated youth running coach, she channeled her deep obsession with physical vitality into her hit 2014 sports science memoir, Older, Faster, Stronger: What Women Runners Can Teach Us All About Living Younger, Longer, a highly praised work following her journey to push the limits of athletic performance after age 50. Today, she continues to advocate for alternative education and fitness, delivers inspiring keynotes at national health expositions, lectures on magazine journalism at Toronto Metropolitan University, and is actively developing a dramatic television pilot and her debut novel.
