Lang Lang

Lang Lang (born June 14, 1982) is a world-renowned Chinese classical pianist, educator, and philanthropist whose explosive virtuosity and charismatic, boundary-pushing showmanship have made him one of the most influential cultural ambassadors of the 21st century. Born in Shenyang, Liaoning, he began piano lessons at age three and went on to study at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He vaulted into permanent international superstardom in 1999 following a last-minute breakthrough performance at the Ravinia Festival, quickly becoming the first Chinese pianist to be engaged by the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonics. Renowned for communicating classical music to massive, diverse audiences, he has performed for billions of viewers at momentous global events, including the Beijing 2008 Olympic Opening Ceremony, the 2024 Reopening of Notre-Dame in Paris, and the 2026 Milan Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony. He has built a prolific recording legacy with Deutsche Grammophon, winning the 2024 OPUS KLASSIK Instrumentalist of the Year award for his acclaimed Saint-Saëns album, and launched the 2025/26 season with a highly publicized gala concert alongside the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
