Jeanne Beker is a Canadian journalist, author, broadcaster, and fashion editor, born in Toronto in 1952. Her work has helped bring fashion reporting to broad television audiences in Canada and internationally, combining interviews, cultural commentary, and attention to Canadian design.
After early training in acting in New York and mime in Paris, Beker began her journalism career as an arts reporter for CBC Radio in Newfoundland. Back in Toronto, she worked at CHUM Radio and, in 1979, co-hosted the music series The NewMusic. A founding member of MuchMusic, she launched and hosted FashionTelevision in 1985; the programme ran for 27 years and was shown in more than 130 countries. She later served as editor-in-chief of FQ and SIR magazines and has written books about fashion and personal experience, including the catalogued memoir Finding Myself in Fashion.
Her 2024 memoir Heart on My Sleeve considers memory and identity through clothing and jewellery. Beker was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2013 for contributions to the fashion industry and the promotion of Canadian designers, and she was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2016. Her official biography records her continuing work in fashion media and public speaking.
