Dr. Fred Schwarz (January 15, 1913 – January 24, 2009), born Frederick Charles Schwarz, was an Australian physician, prominent Christian activist, and author who became a central figure in the mid-century American anti-communist movement. Originally practicing as a general practitioner and psychiatrist in Sydney, he became convinced that communism operated like a psychological and societal disease. At the suggestion of evangelist Dr. Billy Graham, Schwarz immigrated to the United States and founded the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade (CACC) in 1953. For over four decades, he toured the world as a public educator and "pathologist of communism," famously writing the million-copy bestseller You Can Trust the Communists (to be Communists) (1960). He capped his long, controversial career by publishing his massive 599-page autobiography, Beating the Unbeatable Foe: One Man's Victory over Communism, Leviathan, and the Last Enemy (1996), which features a commemorative foreword by his long-time friend and political ally, former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
