Author profile

Curtis C. Chen

Curtis C. Chen (陈致宇) is an American writer of science fiction and speculative fiction whose work combines space adventure, espionage, mystery, and comic dialogue. A former Silicon Valley software engineer, he writes near Portland, Oregon, and has also contributed to writers’ organizations and audio-fiction projects.

His debut novel, Waypoint Kangaroo: A Novel, introduced Evan Rogers, a secret agent whose unusual ability allows him to open a portal to a pocket universe. The book began the Kangaroo series, followed by Kangaroo Too and True Blue Kangaroo. Chen’s shorter fiction has appeared in magazines and anthologies, while his audio work includes Realm’s Echo Park, for which he is credited as co-creator and showrunner, as well as contributions to Ninth Step Murders and Machina.

Waypoint Kangaroo: A Novel was a finalist for the 2017 Locus Award for Best First Novel and the 2017 Endeavour Award. Chen served as Secretary of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association from 2017 to 2021; his official biography currently identifies him as a Board Director-at-Large. His website also lists Kangaroo Forth as a forthcoming fourth novel in the series.
