Claudia Dey

Claudia Dey is an acclaimed Canadian novelist, playwright, and fashion designer whose boundary-pushing writing explores identity, unconventional family structures, and deep emotional vulnerabilities. A graduate of McGill University and the National Theatre School of Canada, she first gained widespread attention as a playwright with acclaimed stage productions like Beaver, Trout Stanley, and The Gwendolyn Poems, the latter of which earned prestigious nominations for the Governor General’s Literary Award and the Trillium Book Award. Dey seamlessly transitioned into fiction with her debut novel Stunt, a finalist for the Amazon.ca First Novel Award, followed by Heartbreaker, a Trillium Book Award finalist currently optioned for television adaptation. Her latest novel, Daughter, became an instant national bestseller, a New York Times Must-Read, and earned a spot on the 2024 Carol Shields Prize for Fiction jury citation list. A highly versatile creative voice, she has published prominent essays and interviews in The Paris Review, Vogue, and McSweeney’s, worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto, and co-founded the celebrated fashion label Horses Atelier.
