Author profile

Alex Tapscott

Alex Tapscott is a Canadian business author, investor, and commentator on blockchain, cryptoassets, and the economic uses of emerging technologies. His work has helped bring discussions of decentralized networks from specialist technical circles to business and policy audiences.

With his father, Don Tapscott, he co-wrote Blockchain Revolution, published in 2016. The book considers how blockchain systems might affect finance, record-keeping, identity, and organizational practice beyond their association with cryptocurrencies. In 2017, the two co-founded the Blockchain Research Institute, a research and education organization focused on the strategic and institutional implications of blockchain technology. Tapscott later published Web3: Charting the Internet’s Next Economic and Cultural Frontier (2023), addressing digital ownership, decentralized finance, non-fungible tokens, and related technologies.

Tapscott received the Thinkers50 Digital Thinking Award with Don Tapscott in 2017. He is listed by CMCC Global as chief executive officer of CMCC Global Capital Markets, and his recent work includes research on stablecoin policy and digital-asset markets. He is a graduate of Amherst College and a CFA charterholder.
